9,000 runners set to light up Lyon at the Urban Trail by Night this Saturday
The 12th Lyon Urban Trail by Night is sold out again, with 9,000 runners lining up at the foot of the Montée du Chemin Neuf before a magical finish in the heart of the Ancient Theatres of Fourvière.
Headlamps strapped on, trail shoes laced and adrenaline maxed out, the urban trail runners of LUT By Night will take on the steep alleys and stairs of Vieux-Lyon, the dark slopes and trails of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon and Oullins-Pierre-Bénite, and the unforgettable climb of the Sarra track… A perfect outing for anyone training for the next SaintéLyon.
Every year in early November, hundreds of runners fill the hills on the right bank of the Saône, the Saint-Jean district, Fourvière and Sainte-Foy. On the menu: three race formats and a hike. LUT by Night is known for its unique, friendly night-time atmosphere, which turns the city into a playground for runners of every level, and draws more participants each year.
Three distances are on the menu:
30 km – 1,100 m D+/- : The main event, mixing nature stretches and historic landmarks (2,000 participants)
20 km – 750 m D+/- : An intense best-of format, capped at 3,200 participants
10 km – 450 m D+/- : Urban trail in a nutshell, to be enjoyed at your own pace, with 3,300 participants in the timed race and 500 in the hike.
Local champions out in force
Lyon native Marion Delespierre, 2023 trail world champion, returns for the 30 km. Lining up alongside her will be Anne-Sophie Chaume, winner of the spring edition of the Lyon Urban Trail 2025 (25 km) and fresh off a victory at the Run in Lyon Marathon.
On the men's side, local runner Yoann Stuck is expected to dictate the pace from the start of the 30 km. Already on the podium of the daytime 38 km edition in March, he fully intends to be up front on a course he knows like the back of his hand. He will have to fend off trail runner Clément Durance, whose 2026 wins include the 88 km of the Trail du Saint-Jacques by UTMB.
Atmosphere guaranteed on the course
The climb of the Sarra track will be timed again for all 8,500 runners, except those in the 10 km Hike (untimed). At the top, event partners i-Run and Salomon Running will set up an exceptional fan zone. A DJ at the finish area will keep the music going well into the night.
