Rooted in the heart of Haute-Loire, the Grand Trail du Saint-Jacques offers a wild crossing along the centuries-old pilgrimage routes to Compostela. Starting from Puy-en-Velay or the surrounding plateaus, the course winds through the volcanic landscapes of the Velay, between deep forests, the Allier gorges, and the distinctive, dome-shaped volcanic peaks known as sucs.
The flagship race features a demanding profile of 120 kilometers and more than 4,000 meters of elevation gain, combining technical singletrack with more runnable sections that invite a steady rhythm. The adventure culminates in a magnificent finale: a memorable climb up the cobblestones of the old town to the forecourt of the majestic Notre-Dame du Puy Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Offered across several distances (120 km, 80 km, 50 km, 18 km) and part of the UTMB World Series circuit, the event brilliantly combines historical heritage with a top-level sporting challenge.
