In late July, the Snowbird resort, near Alta, hosts the Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB® in the heart of Utah's Wasatch Range, with start and finish on Snowbird Plaza. Designed by Karl "Speedgoat" Meltzer, who gave the race its name, the route links summits above 3,300 m, the steep climb of Mount Baldy, the switchbacks of the "Chips", scree slopes and ridges, and even runs through a tunnel cut into the rock before dropping back into fir forest. Altitude and steep slopes make every kilometre count.
A stop on the UTMB® World Series, the event offers three races from 10K to 50K: the 50K with 3,450 m of elevation gain, the 28K (2,000 m) and the 10K (500 m). It is one of the major events among races in Utah.
