From the Sassi of Matera, a troglodyte city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the golden beaches of the Ionian Sea, Puglia by UTMB takes runners across an entire swathe of southern Italy. The longest-distance race starts at night at the foot of the old town, while the other distances, from 10 km to the ultra, explore the gravine, canyons carved into the limestone, Mediterranean forests, stone villages and underground galleries hewn into the ground. The latest addition to Italy's UTMB World Series, the event appeals with its authenticity, extraordinary setting and autumn light. It offers Running Stones towards the UTMB final, and its warm welcome quickly makes runners forget the difficulty of the terrain.
