In the Sierra Tarahumara, in northern Mexico, the Chihuahua by UTMB takes runners deep into the heart of the impressive Barrancas del Cobre. The trails plunge into deep canyons, cross forests and isolated villages, and offer spectacular views of the region’s rugged landscape. The event is also deeply connected to the Rarámuri culture, whose tradition of running is deeply rooted in everyday life.
Along the routes, runners share the trails with these communities, particularly around Urique, Churo and Guitayvo. The terrain alternates between steep sections, long descents and demanding climbs in a particularly wild environment. The race combines wide-open spaces, a sporting challenge and the discovery of a culture deeply connected to mountain running.
