In the heart of Turkey, Cappadocia offers the Cappadocia Wildmarathon a setting that seems straight out of a dream. Starting in Göreme, runners can choose between the marathon, half marathon and 10 km, on courses that alternate between dirt roads, narrow trails and passages through villages, amid valleys, canyons and the famous fairy chimneys, shaped by erosion.
The elevation gain is very real, giving the race a wild edge, while the atmosphere remains warm and welcoming. Held in autumn, when temperatures are cool and the light is soft, the event forms part of a multi-day stay combining running, exploration of the region and its heritage, including the famous hot-air balloon flights over the valleys.
