In Antarctica, the Antarctic Ice Ultra takes place around Ultima Camp, in Queen Maud Land, at nearly 70° south. Here, there are no marked trails or wooded terrain: runners make their way across snow and ice, through a white landscape stretching as far as the eye can see. The cold, wind and changing conditions are an integral part of the race.
Distances range from the half marathon to the 100-mile ultra, with a 24-hour race also available. For several days, participants live at the polar camp before flying to Antarctica from Cape Town.
