100 Miles Sud de France

Every early October, the Pyrénées-Orientales becomes the setting for a major ultra-trail race linking the high Catalan mountains to the Mediterranean. Runners cross the Catalan Pyrenees and the Canigou massif, following ridge trails, cork oak forests and vineyards before reaching the coast. The flagship event, the 100-mile race, is aimed at experienced ultra-trail runners, but several shorter formats, from mid-distance trail races to crossings of more than 100 km, allow other types of runners to experience the adventure. With base camps, aid stations and a strong volunteer presence, the race conveys a spirit of mutual support, and people come as much for the performance as for the journey across a region on the border with Spain.
